Flashback: Ace Attorney Games

Posted on Thursday 30 April 2009

After finishing up Apollo Justice earlier this week, I figured a synopsis of the Ace Attorney series was in order. Luckily, between Sherv and myself, we have covered all of them here on Good-Evil. Without further ado… (more…)

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

Posted on Tuesday 28 April 2009

The fourth Ace Attorney game finally hit America last year, promising some much needed changes from the first 3 games, which without a doubt suffered diminished returns with each release. Surprisingly, much of the original trilogy’s cast has been dumped, and they have been replaced by a new defense attorney, Apollo Justice, his new assistant, Trucy, and a new prosecutor, Klavier Gavin. While some rather familiar faces end up turning up before long, the fresh start seems to be exactly what the series needed, as it finally shed its glorified GBA port stylings of the first three games and now has fully embraced changes that were hinted at in the bonus case of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. The result is the best game since the original. (more…)

Shuffling things around

Posted on Friday 24 April 2009

So I got sick of the current sidebar layouts and rearranged them into what I think makes a little more sense. There’s now only one navigation, and it’s on the left. The login has been moved up to the top so it’s easier to get to and people, you know, actually realize they can register and comment here. Also, the comments have been moved up so you can see the most recent comments a lot easier. Not sure if I’m done tweaking it, but I think it’s a marked improvement.

Bit Rat – Channel: 1 EP

Posted on Thursday 23 April 2009

Bit Rat is a new chiptune project by Josiah Tobin. The Channel: 1 EP is an experimental, single channel EP full of wacky chiptune goodness. For the non-extreme-nerds out there, this means that only one sound is produced at a time. If a drum sample is triggered, then that’s it. Nothing else is playing at that moment.

It seems like a tricky task, but the music speaks for itself. The majority of it is quirky, but it is all enjoyable. Starting off with “Quince”, a Euro-style dance song, it’s easy to hear how this is going to work. There is a common stutter and swagger present in each song. The interplay between the beats, the melodies, and the bass lines become immensely interesting. If you aren’t paying attention, it may even seem like this EP isn’t following any strict limitations.

Totaling 8 songs at 15 minutes in length, this EP is a brief trip through a funky fresh experiment. This obviously is not going to be for everyone, but there is an extreme level of dancability present in each of these delicious tracks. Check it out. It’s free and interesting!

Mario Pinball Land

Posted on Wednesday 22 April 2009

Mario Pinball Land was the inevitable merging of Mario and pinball that was released on GBA. This game piqued my interest for a number of reasons; I’ve been a pinball fan as long as I can remember playing games in arcades, I’m a sucker for themed pinball, I’m a Mario fan, and it is the predecessor to the highly entertaining Metroid Prime Pinball, both developed by Fuse Games. While the basis for many of the great ideas for Metroid Prime Pinball can be seen here in their infancy, this game unfortunately has a few more issues that prevent if from being truly great.
