Pearl Jam – Backspacer

Posted on Monday 28 December 2009

It’s easy to dismiss Pearl Jam as radio friendly 40-somethings that mom, dad, and kid can enjoy, but if you look beyond the massive cloud of their debut Ten, they’ve released some pretty great albums in the time since, and even as recently as a few years ago. But I have no idea what happened to this band in the course of 2 albums. Riot Act was fantastic album in 2002, but the fabled “return of the rock” in 2006’s self-titled album was a total dud. Well, 2009 unfortunately brings more of the same, with another completely forgettable album from Vedder and co. (more…)

GE;TS (03.10): The Flaming Lips – A Change At Christmas (Say It Isn’t So)

Posted on Friday 25 December 2009

Lately, Good-Evil has been a little quiet, and that’s mainly due to the holidays. But since I have a few minutes, I wanted to share one of the few Christmas songs I really like. It’s a track off the Ego Tripping EP by the Flaming Lips, and it’s a great mix of melancholy and joyful feelings about the kindness and generosity we share during the holiday. Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays from all of us at Good-Evil. (more…)

River City Ransom

Posted on Sunday 13 December 2009

River City Ransom was one of the staple games of my youth. I used to rent it continually until I found it new for $15 in 1991. After that, it barely left my NES. My friend Drew and I would spend most of our gaming time playing this game (and Skate or Die), and I know we both still have fond memories of it. Now it’s time to see how well it’s held up! (more…)

Game Hunt (12/08/09): PC Classics, Action Figures, Golden Tee, & More

Posted on Tuesday 8 December 2009

Well, Black Friday Sales have come and gone, and it turns out even thrift stores are getting in on the action nowadays! Goodwill lowered blue tags to 99 cents, and offered 40% off pink and green, which isn’t bad. St Vincent de Paul had everything half-off, which was even better, but they tend to have less games on average than most other thrifts (although I have certainly found some great stuff there). I hit the sales early, and although I made out alright, all it really did was whet my appetite for the far more lucrative President’s Day sales. Goodwill typically runs the same sale as they did for Black Friday, but Value Village also gets in on the “half-off everything” madness, which leads to a lot of good finds. Anyway, onto what I’ve picked-up in the last two weeks; let’s start off with a hearty helping of cheap strategy guides. (more…)

Flashback: God of War Games

Posted on Saturday 5 December 2009

After reviewing Chains of Olympus on Friday, I realized that we had covered most of the God of War series here on Good-Evil between Chuck, myself, and Chris. I pulled the old God of War review from Chuck from our old site, and added Chris’ review from a few years ago. Without further ado…. (more…)

God of War: Chains of Olympus

Posted on Thursday 3 December 2009

The PSP version of God of War (which you may remember from a certain Game Hunt earlier in November) is, without a doubt, a faithful rendition of the series. For those of you who played either of the original 2 games for PS2 (or the recent collection for PS3) and enjoyed it, picking this up should be a no-brainer. At its core, it is exactly what it advertises. It is a portable God of War that plays and looks nearly identical to its console brethren. It’s certainly not perfect, but it is one of the premier action games on the system. (more…)
