Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

Sonic and his rag tag pals have the adventure thing down. Whether it be side scrolling or 3D, Sonic games have a simple formula: speed = fun. However, that formula has gotten stale. Since the fall of the Dreamcast, Sega has been creating Sonic titles at a steady rate. The luster [...]

Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard (Guest Review)
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

Contributed by Silas Reinagel. Etrian Odyssey 2 is patterned after old-school CRPGs. Like a lot of the classics, your dungeon exploration takes a first-person perspective. However, unlike an ordinary dungeon, in this RPG, you are exploring the inside of a massive tree, with different levels and Stratum (groups of 5 levels). Even though you are somewhat confined in the massive natural labyrinth, you never particularly confined or claustrophobic, since it feels more like wandering through a lush (and deadly) forest. Each Stratum has it’s own tileset, so just when you’re starting to hope for a change of scenery, the next Stratum is not too far off.

Final Fantasy IV DS
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

Note: If you have never play Final Fantasy IV be forewarned that the following contains spoilers.
Dear reader, are you still debating whether to snag the latest Squeenix remake? Are you doubting whether it’s worth plunging into the world of Final Fantasy IV yet again? Wasn’t the GBA release with its additional material enough already? Well, [...]

Bangai-O Spirits (Guest Review)
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

Contributed by Matt Gburek. Bangai-O Spirits for the DS is a really great shooter. It’s a very different game from its predecessor and at first I wasn’t sure what to think, but the more I play it, the more I like it. The game isn’t nearly as simple as it used to be. You have a myriad of special weapons this time around, and you can equip two normal weapons and two special weapons at the same time. The stage design is very intricate and each one has its own unique concept this time around, so rather than just going in there and destroying everything in your path, HOW you’re actually going to go about doing that plays a key role this time.

Scurge: Hive
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

I could have also titled this “bargain bin game review that most of you won’t bother reading”, and that would probably fit just as well. However, I played it, I’m gonna talk about it. I think that by playing through this, it made me realize that yes, this is a very mediocre game, but [...]

Professor Layton and the Curious Village
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

I think what initially drew me to this game was it’s rather unusual protagonists. It strikes me as strange that a Japanese developed game would essentially feel like a game developed in Europe, having British puzzle solvers explore a European village. Aside from the premise, the glowing reviews didn’t hurt either. The game itself is [...]

Contra 4
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

So I figured the worst person to extol the virtues of a Contra game of any sort would be myself. I’ve never been a big fan of the series in general, and I’m not of the mindset that when a game is difficult, I absolutely need to conquer it. No, I’d rather sigh and resign [...]

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

It’s been a good year for the Ace Attorney series, seeing the second and third games released in the same year. If you’ve played either of the first two games, you should be right at home here. There’s nothing new added to the series in this iteration other than a conclusion of sorts to some [...]

First Impressions: Dementium, UMK, and Neves
( Features -> DS -> Opinion )

Come sit down with Uncle Sherv as he spouts drivel about 3 recently released DS games: Dementium, Ultimate Mortal Kombat, and Neves!

The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
( Reviews -> Games -> DS )

First things first, I have not finished a Zelda game since Link to the Past which in my opinion is the flagship of the series. Many would
argue that title belongs to Ocarina of Time so we’ll just agree to disagree. My problem with Zelda games is they’re exciting for the first couple of
hours [...]
