The fourth Ace Attorney game finally hit America last year, promising some much needed changes from the first 3 games, which without a doubt suffered diminished returns with each release. Surprisingly, much of the original trilogy’s cast has been dumped, and they have been replaced by a new defense attorney, Apollo Justice, his new assistant, [...]
Ninja Gaiden Dragon SwordNinja Gaiden Dragon Sword (yes, another title pun made using DS) is, without a doubt, a very high quality title for the DS. It has a unique and interesting control scheme, easily some of the best graphics on the DS, and most importantly of all, gameplay that keeps you interested through the course of the [...]
Space Puzzle BobbleWhen people mention Taito’s Puzzle Bobble/Bust a Move series of games nowadays, it usually isn’t in a particularly positive light. Read any recent review of any game in the series if you don’t believe me. They say that the games lack depth. They say that they aren’t real puzzle games, since all you really need [...]
Dementium: The WardDementium: The Ward is a classic case of a solid concept and great controls mixed with unsatisfying gameplay. Dementium is the first game released by developer Renegade Kid, who recently released their second game, Moon. Dementium is first person survival horror game that takes place in mental hospital. The controls closely resemble Metroid Prime Hunters, [...]
The World Ends With YouContributed by Jeremy Stoltzfus.
For me, The World Ends With You was a very highly anticipated game for ‘08. The fiery passion between me and my DS has died down a bit since ‘05 when we first met, and I had high hopes that this could be the DS exclusive game to rekindle that flame. It [...]
A couple months ago, Sherv went over the newly released Final Fantasy IV remake for DS and discussed some of the differences and what he liked and disliked about it. Well, I could have just as easily left a reply in that post detailing my experience with the game, but instead I had a few [...]
The Legend of Kage 2It’s not too often you see a sequel 22 years after the original (which itself wasn’t exactly a household name), but Taito has done just that and released The Legend of Kage 2. From my brief time with the original NES game, I can’t say I was exactly wowed (climb trees, slash wildly at flying [...]
Castlevania: Order of EcclesiaA surprise to no one, another Castlevania DS game was released this year. What was a surprise, however, was that several of the recent typical Castlevania conventions were tossed out the window. Instead of basing the game entirely around Dracula’s castle, this game mostly takes place completely away from it. Instead of one continuous map [...]
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark BrotherhoodSonic and his rag tag pals have the adventure thing down. Whether it be side scrolling or 3D, Sonic games have a simple formula: speed = fun. However, that formula has gotten stale. Since the fall of the Dreamcast, Sega has been creating Sonic titles at a steady rate. The luster [...]
Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard (Guest Review)Contributed by Silas Reinagel. Etrian Odyssey 2 is patterned after old-school CRPGs. Like a lot of the classics, your dungeon exploration takes a first-person perspective. However, unlike an ordinary dungeon, in this RPG, you are exploring the inside of a massive tree, with different levels and Stratum (groups of 5 levels). Even though you are somewhat confined in the massive natural labyrinth, you never particularly confined or claustrophobic, since it feels more like wandering through a lush (and deadly) forest. Each Stratum has it’s own tileset, so just when you’re starting to hope for a change of scenery, the next Stratum is not too far off.
