“Good-Evil; The Soundtrack” is a weekly feature that showcases an editor’s song pick complete with a small write-up and a YouTube video or streaming version of the song. This week’s selection by Brian Hohman is Bat For Lashes – “Pearl’s Dream”.
In the seemingly growing stream of new synth electropop, Bat for Lashes, aka Natasha Khan, truly stands out. On her second album, Two Suns, I find it to be a much more complete, thought out record that meshes much better overall. The singles are a little hard to pick out, which is a good thing, as her individual writing and musicianship has improved tenfold.
Still, “Pearl’s Dream” stuck out as one of my favorites from the start. I would find myself antsy on each listen waiting for this track #7 to arrive, but of course never dared to think of skipping any of her wonderful tracks.
For Two Suns, she went on a journey and stayed out camping at Joshua Tree National Park where she adopted the stage persona Pearl, and I am glad she chose this song as one of her signs, letting us take a peak into her creepy, trippy but oh-so-enjoyable adventure.
