“Good-Evil; The Soundtrack” is a weekly feature that showcases an editor’s song pick complete with a small write-up and
a YouTube video or streaming version of the song. This week’s selection by Mike is Hank Jacobs – “Tam-A-Rind”.
Now and then I need a quick, thick track to perk me up. Nothing scratches the itch better than a funky, R&B/soul cut
that gets its happy point across in a hurry. “Tam-A-Rind” is just that – an mid 60s instrumental with tons of character and a simple, catchy melody. Jacobs’ Hammond organ simply grinds, the bass pulses away like the collective heartbeat of a swinging party and the horns scratch out some deep, fluid lines over the background tickling of the piano. There’s nothing overly complicated about this song, but that’s just how I like sometimes. All I know is that it puts a smile on my face.
