“Good-Evil; The Soundtrack” is a weekly feature that showcases an editor’s song pick complete with a small write-up and a YouTube video or streaming
version of the song. This week’s selection by Chuck is Dokken – “Dream Warriors”. When the third Nightmare on Elm Street (subtitled the Dream Warriors) needed a theme song the studio needed to make a decision. They probably realized a metal band would fit the bill because, one, this is a horror
movie, and two, the year is 1987. Therefore they hired Dokken. I’m assuming there aren’t many Dokken fans out there anymore, but I am hoping that this video resurrects their career a little. I love how absolutely cheesy this video is. At various points the members of Dokken appear throughout the scenery of the movie set to rock. It all culminates at the end where they use the power of metal to defeat Freddie Krueger and wake him from his own nightmare. He is left asking, “who were those guys?” Besides the hokey video, there is one stand out reason to like this song. George Lynch uses his ridiculous dexterity to burn up his skulled axe. Lynch usually does impressive things with a guitar and “Dream Warriors” is no exception.
