GE;TS (01.06): Billy Q. Effinger – Willie the Warlock
By Chris Derosa Friday, 1 May 2009

“Good-Evil; The Soundtrack” is a weekly feature that showcases an editor’s song pick complete with a small write-up and a YouTube video or streaming version of the song. This week’s selection by Chris is “Billy Q. Effinger – Willie the Warlock”.

When was the last time you showed someone you love exactly how you feel? What did you do to prove your affection to that person you hold so dear in your heart? I know I’ve often stumbled in life when it came to finding the exact words to say to special people in my life, but this song truly helped me gain the confidence that I so sorely needed. In Willie the Warlock, Willie plays the titular warlock who shows his one and only daughter how much he cares for her through

the gift of magic and song. A truly touching piece that proves even the strongest of men can be shaken to their core by a strong and tender bond which outlasts the lifespan of an ancient warlock. An excerpt from the song shows what I’m talking about.

I am the warlock supreme
Nothing’s as real as it seems
Except my love for you
Do you know it’s true?
I will take on any shape or form
To keep you safe and far from harm
And show you that this love is meant to be

As the illusions come and go, love stays as the only true reality in the universe. I still have my troubles with expressing my love to those that deserve to hear it, but with every listen of this ballad I know that when the

time comes I won’t need to cast any spells or prove my immortality. I’ll have all that I need right with me in my heart and soul with the most powerful spell of them all, the gift of love.

Thanks to Mike Callahan for introducing this amazing song to me.

I wasn’t sure if it was Enter the Warlock or Willie the Warlock. Enter sounds more epic but according to the track listing on the cd it is Willie. Oh well. I need the album.

  2. Zach Patterson Says:

    fix’d.
