Developer: Konami Publisher: Konami (JP + EU), Ultra (US) Year: 1990 (JP), 1991 (US + EU)
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game was ported
to many systems, and it can be argued that the NES game received the best treatment in terms of music. It’s another
example of some fine compositional work from Konami.
One thing I’ve always enjoyed about all the TMNT soundtracks is how they weren’t afraid to reference the main theme from the cartoon quite often, however subtle or overt. Take the Stage 3 music, for example.
Weaving brief moments in and out that nod to the main theme while being an otherwise original track is part of what makes a soundtrack like this a cohesive package.
The music is composed by Y. Manno and. K. Nakamura. Nakamura also worked on the 1st and 3rd TMNT titles, which should explain all the similarites that go beyond simply being developed by the same company.
