Year: 1988 (US + JP), 1991 (EU)
AKA: Chou-Wakusei Senki MetaFight

Coming in at #25 is Blaster Master. Immediately, from the introduction, the music distinguishes itself as an element that will have a strong presence throughout the game. Most of the stage themes are catchy and driving, although there are a couple ominous ones which are no less interesting.

It is the first soundtrack by composer Naoki Kodaka, who also contributed to many other SunSoft games with excellent music. While he’s perhaps not as widely known as other contemporary video game composers like Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu, I think that Kodaka and some of the other SunSoft crew are amongst the best. If you don’t mind a bit of a spoiler here, there is more Kodaka and SunSoft on the way…
