I recently received MintJam GIG #1-5 in the mail from my good friend 778, and I love that great man for it.
For those of you who don’t know, MintJam is a Japanese doujin band who makes some of the best instrumental pieces I have ever heard. They have a great guitar tone, amazingly professional production, and stunning arrangements. The band is made up of band members setzer, a2c, kya and TERRA. The band was founded in ’03 by setzer and a2c, while kya and TERRA joined the band offically at a later point (though they all appear on MintJam’s first GIG).
The GIG series is mostly original works which in my opinion surpass their game arrangements. They are so fresh, melodic, and intense that you can’t help to just get ripped into the music when you put it on. GIG #1 and 3 are all game arrangements, with titles such as Final Fantasy 1, 3 and 7, Melty Blood and Chrono Trigger.
Recently MintJam has started to compose game soundtracks for Hentai games such as Ryouki and XChange2, also containing some amazing music. Though the content of the games may be questionable at times, there’s absolutely no question how beautiful the music is.
A lot of their music can be downloaded for free from their website, and at MUZIE. They regularly post variatons of tracks from the cds, as well as backing tracks.
All I can say is that if you in any way can get CDs from them, do so at once. Get a Japanese buddy to get them or try contacting them, because it’s the best collection of CDs I have, and it’ll be hard to beat them
The name MintJam really says it all, the music is jamming and truly fresh as mint.
